Every load carrier now needs a record of what it is made of. We look at the load carriers you already have and tell you which documents are needed and where they come from.
What it is about
The PPWR wants packaging back in circulation instead of in the waste stream. And a record to show that it is.
The new EU regulation exists to reduce waste. The way there is packaging that stays in circulation longer, that can be repaired and that can be recovered at the end of its life. What is new is the record that goes with it: what your packaging is made of, how long it lasts and whether it can be repaired.
For Lindörfer + Steiner this is not new ground. We have been building reusable load carriers since 1995, carriers that run for years, that can be repaired and whose material can be recycled at the end. We know every material we use, and for each of our load carriers we know what went into it. The record comes with it.
None of this means you have to replace anything. What is in circulation with you today stays in circulation. The regulation does not require packaging to be exchanged and sets no date by which existing stock would have to be replaced. Repair remains possible, and we replace damaged elements.

Most packaging falls into one of five categories, from one-way through to a fully managed reusable system. The table shows what each starting position looks like, how far the documents usually go, and where Lindörfer + Steiner can help.

The declaration of conformity
Your packaging needs the right documentation. We help you produce it.
The declaration of conformity is the document that holds the necessary information about the packaging. It lists the materials used together with their data sheets, gives dimensions and weight, and names the manufacturer as well as the company that places the packaging on the market. That company usually issues it, although depending on the project it can be the manufacturer. We check your load carriers and tell you which case applies.
Declaration included
For load carriers from our own production we issue the declaration of conformity at no extra effort on your side, including for orders placed years ago. An order number or a photograph is enough for us to identify them.
Full material record
We list every material that went into the carrier, from the twin-wall panel to the adhesive, and attach the data sheets we hold.
Marking on the load carrier
On request we fit a label with a QR code to the load carrier. It leads to a publicly accessible web address where the details of the packaging are set out clearly.
For packaging from other sources too
If a load carrier did not come from our production, we work out with you which details are required and find out where they come from.

Questions and answers on the PPWR

The regulation is in force. The individual requirements take effect in stages and differ by type of packaging. For transport packaging there is no single date by which all requirements have to be met.

No. The regulation bans no type of packaging. It shifts the weight towards reusable systems and reuse.

As a rule, no. There is no obligation to replace packaging that is already in circulation. We inspect your stock on site, digitally or in our works and tell you which systems can carry on as they are, which are worth converting and where a new development is the more economical route.

Pass the request on to us. An order number or an image is enough for us to identify the item. For load carriers from our own production we supply the details of material and construction. For packaging from another source we work out with you which details are required and where they come from.

As a rule the company that places the packaging on the market. Depending on the project it can be the manufacturer. We check your load carriers and tell you which case applies.

That depends on the type of packaging and how it is used, and for open reusable systems it is not yet settled. Where marking is required, we allow for it in the design, including the address at which the details can be called up.
